Walking tours at Anse Chastanet and Jade Mountain

If sun, sand and sea are not enough for you……

Guests staying at 2 of St Lucia’s most scenic resorts can take their St. Lucia vacation beyond the traditional sun, sand and sea experience. Anse Chastanet and its sister property Jade Mountain are in the midst of a 600 acre  lush tropical estate including the Anse Mamin  valley where the remains of an 18th century  plantation are still visible today.

These two St.Lucia resorts offers an array of complimentary walking and hiking options which give guests the opportunity to take in the magnificent estate scenery while enjoying some exercise. These exclusive tours are led by the resort’s veteran guide, Meno, who for nearly three decades has been delighting guests with his extensive knowledge of the historical and natural aspects of the area. Meno’s enthusiasm and friendly manner insure a very enjoyable time is had by all.

The exclusive walks that are offered vary in difficulty level to make sure there is something for everyone. The least strenuous and most popular offering is the Anse Mamin Plantation Walk which begins on the resort’s second beach just to the north. Participants are ferried over by boat which in itself offers some great views along the way. Participants are sure to be dazzled by both the natural beauty of the old plantation and the interesting information provided by Meno. Within the lush coastal jungle are the ruins of an old sugar plantation, which was established in the last half of the 18th century, as well as a great variety of tropical foliage.

For guests wishing to see more of the resort property the Miss Ina Walk is ideal. This 2 ½ hour trek winds up the hills behind the resort providing participants plenty of interesting views of the facilities, the Pitons and the surrounding area. An average level of fitness is required for this walk.

For guests wishing to get more of a strenuous workout the Morne Lastic Walk is a 3 hour hike which takes participants up and over the mountains into the town of Soufriere. Along the way guests are treated to fabulous views of the Pitons, Soufriere Bay and the town with Meno providing interesting information all along the way. Participants are then picked up by boat at the Soufriere waterfront for a scenic cruise back to the resort.

The Saturday morning Soufriere Market Walk is a favourite for many guests as it offers a great chance to really get to know the town and its people. From the resort Meno leads participants at a leisurely pace along the Anse Chastanet cbd products to town. Along the way there is plenty to see including flora and fauna, the Pitons and Soufriere Bay. Upon arriving in town the first stop is the Saturday morning farmer’s market which is a colorful bustle of local activity with the selling of fruits, vegetables and other products. From there it’s on into the town center to see the church, town square and lots of interesting old French architecture. There is also time for a little shopping and some refreshment while taking in the local culture. Guests then board a resort boat for an enjoyable return journey with a visit to the bat cave along the way. The market walk is relatively easy requiring only an average level of fitness.

Another very popular option is the Malgretoute Waterfall Walk which begins with a very scenic boat ride across Soufriere Bay to Malgretoute Beach at the base of Petit Piton. From there Meno leads guests on a leisurely walk up the hill to the Piton Warm Waterfall. Participants are urged to take along swim wear to enjoy a relaxing dip in the volcanically warmed water.

The newest hike offered exclusively by Anse Chastanet and Jade Mountain is the Bouton to Anse Mamin Walk. For this strenuous trek participants are transported by taxi to the Bouton gap on the West Coast road where the walk begins, led by Meno, of course. The first part follows the Bouton road into the quaint community centre where participants pick up a forest trail which weaves its way down to the resort’s Anse Mamin beach. Outstanding views of the Pitons and the Sulphur Springs volcano are had along the way while guests are introduced to a great variety of local flora and fauna and may even get a view of the rare St. Lucian Parrot. The route also takes hikers past the foundation ruins of a very old estate which many claim to be the birth place of Josephine, Napolean’s wife.

These resort walks are available to guests staying at Anse Chastanet and Jade Mountain free of charge. In addition and at a charge, the hotel excursion desk can of course arrange a great variety of other hikes off the actual resort property and there also is a full island excursion schedule.

Real action fans will also enjoy the resorts’ scuba centre Scuba St.Lucia with excellent water sports facilities and the resort mountain biking centre Bike St. Lucia with 12 miles of private estate  bike trails and 50 Cannondale bikes for rental.
